on the making of Felix no. 1
A Collaboration Between Rabbit, Dye, and Hand.
Felix no. 1 - salt & Poke
Felix No. 1 – Salt & Poke marks the inaugural release in the Angora Editions series and coincides with Felix’s third year — a quiet celebration of the fiber he has grown and offered over time.
Felix’s angora forms the foundation of this work. His salt-and-pepper fiber, gathered through routine grooming, carries the loft and depth distinctive to fiber grown at home. It is intimate material — known animal, known hands.
Felix himself is measured but particular — thoughtful, observant, one ear perpetually refusing full symmetry. He is calm until the distinct crinkle of a bag of chips enters the room, at which point his attention sharpens completely. That subtle asymmetry — that attentiveness — lives inside this edition.
For Salt & Poke, his angora was paired with Polwarth silk dyed slowly with foraged pokeberries. Pokeberry is temperamental and alive in the dyebath — staining hands, shifting from sharp magenta to softened plum, responsive to time, temperature, and touch. It resists strict repetition.
Each fiber was spun separately by hand into singles before being plied together into five distinct skeins. The result is a true collaboration: salt-and-pepper angora alongside the natural variation and shifting blush of pokeberry color.
Each skein varies slightly in weight and yardage, reflecting both its handspun construction and the movement of botanical dye. No two are identical. Each stands on its own.
Angora Editions will continue to unfold in future releases, shaped by the fiber grown here and the colors drawn from the season.
