Naturally bundle dyed with cosmos from my natural dye garden and sumac leaves, hand gathered by yours truly on Long Island, New York, USA.

Bundle dyeing is a dye method where the flowers (cosmos from my dye garden) are wrapped up inside yarn, rolled up and tied into a bundle. These bundles were then submerged into a dye bath of sumac leaves, which are extremely rich in tannins. Afterwards, the bundles were dipped into an after bath of iron water, which reacts with the tannins to create deep greys and near black colors. The multicolored effect is created by the act of bundling - the parts of the yarn in contact with the flowers were never in direct contact with the sumac dye bath or iron after bath, so these parts of the yarn dyed bright yellow and orange, while the outside of each bundle picked up the tannins from the sumac and iron bath. These variegated skeins are fun to use! I do recommend alternating skeins in larger projects for a more cohesive fabric.

Merino mohair is your 100% all natural alternative to a traditional sock yarn. Spun with durability in mind, this blend of 80% fine merino and 20% kid mohair results in a yarn that is strong minus the halo effect that mohair is most well known for. This yarn is perfect for socks and is also just as nice and soft for your sweaters and shawls.
