Bundle dyed with cosmos from my natural dye garden and locally foraged sumac leaves, Trick or Treat is a moody naturally dyed Halloween colorway filled with grey, olive, orange, and golden variation.
For this colorway, cosmos flowers were wrapped directly inside the yarn before each skein was rolled and tied into a bundle. The bundles were then submerged in a sumac leaf dye bath and finished with an iron afterbath. The iron reacts with the tannins in the sumac to create deep greys and charcoal tones, while the sections protected inside the bundle retain the warmer yellow and orange color from the cosmos.
This set is paired with a 20g Black Widow mini, dyed with locally foraged sumac leaves. Its smoky grey tone gives the set a deeper contrast that works beautifully for heels, toes, cuffs, stripes, or colorwork.
Both yarns are dyed on Embrace, a fingering-weight blend of fine merino wool and kid mohair. The mohair adds durability without creating the pronounced halo typically associated with mohair, making Embrace a beautiful all-natural alternative to a traditional nylon-reinforced sock yarn.
